Chinese quad atv problem?
I have a Chinese quad (110cc TaoTao) that won't stay running, it will start and run if you keep throttle on but dies when throttle is let off. I just put a brand new carb on it and new spark plug but still have same problem, hope someone can help.
I have helped a buddy of mine in the past that had one of these. Sadly, they are notorious for having a myriad of problems. HIs was a 250 not a 110.
Because of the fact you know how to put a carb on, I will assume you know the details about the choke, letting it warm up, etc.
Is there fuel/air mixture screw and/or a idle speed screw? It could be an issue with the float in the carb, but we'll leave that alone for now. The manual or the instructions that came with the carb should tell you which is which. Start with idle speed, turning in 1/4 turn increments. You want a reasonable idle speed, not high revving to keep it running, this is hard on various components when putting into gear or shifting.
If this does not solve the problem, or if the idle speed is really high to keep it running. Adjust the fuel/air mixture screw. If the idle speed is reasonable, but won't continue to run, that is probably the problem. Try first to increase the fuel to air mixture. Same way as idle 1/4 increments. The exhaust shouldn't be overly smokey or "rich" smelling. More fuel, less air.
It takes some tinkering, but between the two you should be able to dial it in. If it is a sealed unit (the carb) or if you have already tried this, please post more info and I will try to help. Good luck!
